Can Afro Hair Grow?
As I started to get in to my teen years I begged my mother to perm my hair. After months of pleading she eventually agreed. BIG MISTAKE. The perm eventually took its toll and my hair gradually started loosing length. I was led to believe that black peoples hair didn’t grow, so I made the most of what I had without ever questioning it.
Fast forward to 2009 when afro hair started making an entrance again, it was great…for some. People started talking about how afro hair could grow long, really long. I wasn’t convinced. Unless someone I knew personally could grow long afro hair I was never going to believe it. I was not believing the hype.
When 2012 came about I was heavily pregnant with baby number 3 and my hormones were all over the place. Over night I got a strange curiosity to watch youtube videos on natural hair. Some of the journeys I saw were amazing! But that could never happen to me. The next morning when I woke up I cut off all my hair to everyones surprise even my husbands. I didn’t do it because I thought my hair would grow long. I just did.
Its been 5 going on 6 years now and my hair is completely flourishing. Its healthy, long and full of life. Whats the secret? Look after your hair, don’t over-manuplite it and keep it moisturised. Its that simple, really!
You don’t have to be racially mixed to have long hair, you just have to love and look after your hair.
